I’m trying a new idea: plan the meals of the week, do the shopping accordingly, and try to stick to the plan…
From now on it worked okay if you omit that I swapped a few meals and missed one. I’ll see if I’m able to continue this method (if it suits me of course)!


Bagels and crispy fruitsbag

Bento content:
-Bagels stuffed with cheese cream and salad
-Cereals with strawberries, dried fig and sultanas.

These bagels are home-made and a bit little. Well this was my first thought. In fact there were the perfect size to enter into the bento box special onigri. Yes, I know my meals are not specially Japanese. But, what I like is the variety not to fixed on one particular cuisine. These bagels were respectively made with cinnamon and sultanas, dried fig and sunflower seeds.
I had them also at breakfast with cream cheese (ours don’t have any salt) and strawberries. This is just a wonderful combination! You should definitely try!

Love bento for poorly girl

Bento content:
-Salad leaf
-Omelette made with thinly sliced bacon and potatoes
-Carrot, tomato with salad cream or horseradish, mushroom with chilli centre, cabbage finely sliced.

Yesterday, I was ill. We were meant to go to the swimming pool, but somehow I managed to close my eyes for five minutes and…I was awaken long after with a big bowl of pumpkin soup with a few slices of vinerla sausages floating that Bisounours_51 had prepared for me. So this morning, when I woke up, I sighed. No bento today, so I’ll have to buy some take away. I opened the fridge for my milk and…I saw my bento box in the fridge! My dear Bisounours_51 had prepared me a bento for my lunch! I was so happy! The taste was really great. The only thing was that he didn’t cut the omelette into tiny pieces so I had to find a knife.
I was really happy! Who wouldn’t!

Bento treat

Bento content:
-Courgette sticks with basil
-Turnip stick spiced with hot curry
-Ginger flavoured rice
-Two raw salmon flowers
-Carrot sticks with cinnamon spice
-Pepper flavoured mushrooms
-Broccoli tree.
All of these lying on a salad leaf.

The veggies were ceased with their spices in a hot pan for a few minutes. In case, I would be hungry before arriving home, I prepared a “snack” bento (it’ a 300ml box):
Bento content:
-Nutella stuffed vanilla rice ball
-Kiwi, mandarin,apple and pear slices.

It was really tasty. I enjoyed the vanilla rice stuffed with chocolate spread. The only thing which was weird is that the mandarin flavour was there too! Next time I should pack them apart or in a way they won’t touch other things.
I enjoy these snack bentos. It’s a little treat as I enjoy so much fruits and since I’m grumpy when hungry…I’d rather eat! Oh, it’s only for the sake of the others…

The true bento

Bento content:
-Salad flower with tomato centre and “vienerla” sausage centre
-Coral lens
-Grated carrot and cabbage
-Flower of fruits : pear, apple, mandarin, banana with chocolate spread.

This bento is for me the real spirit of bento. This bento is not my creation, but a present from Bisounours_51. A bento made with love for me. And what was the best is that the flower did hold in place through long trip to work. This day, I really understood the reason why some mums can be waking up so early to prepare a colourful and artistic bento for the smile of their kids. I can understand their pleasure. And the taste of your meal is so much better when it has been done lovingly. This incites me to do pretty bento to share. And now, I understand the pleasure my mom has when preparing us meals…it’s her way to say how much she cares about us. (My dad is really lucky as my mum cooks pretty well!)
I enjoyed the fruity tier the most: the crunchy and soft texture of the different fruits that were mixed. The chocolate spread gave a very delicate taste.
I’m such a lucky person! *Jealous?*

Lunch in Strasbourg

Bento content:
-Spaghetti with the garlic tomato sauce and pieces of “gendarme” sausage
-A flower of “vienerla” sausage
-Little salad with tomatoes and mushrooms
-Kiwi and madarin
-Strawberry can with salad sauce.

I learnt a new trick (thanks to Bisounours_51) when the spaghetti are cooked just wash them with cold water. This trick just convinced me that cold spaghetti could be really tasty.
Most of the meal can be eaten cold (except greasy and creamy stuff) but cold food loses most of their taste. So to preserve the tasty part of your meal, I play with spices. Here garlic and spicy vinegar salad sauce. I’m okay with plain fruits as I’m so fond of them. The idea to cut the mandarin is quite good if you except that it leaks a bit and that it’ll give an orange taste to your kiwi….

Dinner Bentos

Bento content:
-Pancake stuffed with ham and béchamel sauce
-Coral lens
-Rice topped with some tomato with garlic sauce
-A half merguez sausage
-Banana split ice cream with stewed apple.

Today I’m at my boyfriend’s. He enjoys my thrill for miniature cooking and the fact that it helps us to look after our health and weight. I lost more than 6 kg just thanks to the portion control due to bento boxes. The thing is that I just love cooking. And when at last I had my own kitchen (let’s call it so), I enjoyed so much cooking that I was able to do as much as four meals in one evening. And guess what I would it them! The next day, if I was too busy to cook I’d eat whatever or just wouldn’t eat. None of the above solutions were good! The idea is to try to have a balanced meal…but what do we hear with well-balanced meal? I found so many answers (most of them really weird…and not at all in my taste style…I love too much veggies and fruit to accept to put more than 50% of starchy food!). So when I know or have a “good” source, I’ll tell you.

Fossettes has an answer from weight watchers, which suits me.

Then, after a while I had the thought that eating fruits and veggies would be the solution. But without any starchy food, I ate a bit too much of them, and I would always feel hungry.
So, my thrill for bentos is the healthy part and the fact that once for all I can cook mini things, mouthful size, and eat my “four” meals in one go! What a good compromise!

This bento is the result of the ideas and cooking of both of us. It was really tasty!
