Hand made presents, kiwi and mint jelly

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento
-Lens and rice
Potato purée
Kiwi and mint jelly
-Strawberries

My lonely evenings are quite full lately. Lots of Christmas projects, and clothes mending. A few buttons and a ribbon and the nightdress is ready for the midnight ball. Some drawings, birthday cards. And dolls awaking from surgery after a few stitches or a bath.
So only a quick bento could be done tonight. It is a little starchy but I should be eating a little more of proteins, the fruits are just a way to treat myself. I just have to keep in mind that tomorrow night I have to prepare a plate full of veggies to compensate!

Zoé’s birthday, mexican pancakes

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Birthday dinner
Mexican pancakes (with corn flour)
Tomato sauce with soya pellet
Guacamole with white beans puréed added
-Raw cauliflower
-Lettuce
-Spicy sautéed courgette
-Aubergine ratatouille

Someday was my birthday. And the tradition is that the birthday-girl shouldn’t prepare the meal. So Bear is the Chef tonight. One of my favourite meal. A real pleasure. He’s really an amazing cook. Domi popped in off-the-cuff and joined the party. A big thank to both of you to have enlighten my day.

Love letter, leftover lunchbox

Bento
Asparagus
Hollandaise sauce
Mint peas
-Courgette and potato sauté
Lens and beans burger
-Rice
-Strawberries

Back to work as normal, a bento for lunch as being a vegetarian in France is not the easiest. Some courgette and potatoes sautés and some strawberries completed yesterday’s leftovers.
I should be more sedentary in the following months. Not sure Bear will though, so I’ll be the one staying in a lonely house filled with memories, laughs and teasing, scrabble games and chess defeats, decoration planning and wall banged down, plaster dust and paint smells, dug up garden and newly planted trees, all the things we only manage to do together and when one is not by our side we just lose the strength or ability to do.

Together, mint peas, hollandaise sauce and asparagus

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Quick evening meal
Mint peas
Hollandaise sauce
-Rice
Lens and red beans burger
Asparagus

After my trip to Chile I did a jump to Sweden while Bear was in Finland. Both home at last we treated ourselves with some asparagus highlighted with an hollandaise sauce. I added a lens and red bean burger as I really missed pulses in Chilean restaurants. Some rice with mint peas was the perfect match.
It’s such a pleasure to be together again.

Chile, a kitchen and a summer lunch

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Lunch

-Little summer salad (pealed tomato, cucumber and lemon)
-Melon (half)
Tomato, courgette, olive and tofu pie.

Chile, end of the stay, a little flat shared with a friend. An oven, some great flour (I’d love to bring back tones of this flour). An evening baking where we ended as wet phantoms as one started to throw a pinch of flour to the other, then the other grabbed the near by glass half full of water…a great baking night.
The pie leftovers were completed for lunch with a little cucumber tomato salad and a melon. What more can you ask for?
Maybe that Bear could share these moments with me…

I miss you, end of summer bowl in Chile

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Dinner
-Lettuce with parsley
-Sesame seeds
-Radishes
-Pickles
-Tomato with chive
-Toasted cereal bread with a spread of chunky peanut butter and mustard sprouts

Burning my lips with Mary’s herbal tea in the far end of Chile. Loneliness and sunshine rays through my curtains. A lot of work to do and some tiredness. A little cardigan to go out in the sun and brave the brisk wind to get to a pastry shop. Licking my finger with sugar crumbs to avoid staining my book.
A little salad for dinner prepared in a hotel room.
Bear I miss you.

Earth day and a quick bento

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento
Risotto topped with flax seeds and wakame
-Canned pepper bell, mum’s home-grown carrots, flat green beans, chive, parsley

Most of the time I feel like the hummingbird trying to fight an enormous forest fire with the tiny drop of water he can store in his beak, not listening to the others laughing about the nonsense of the situation, trying not to hear their “it’s useless” argumentation.
But today is different. Today is Earth day. Today, I feel that I’m not the only hummingbird in the world. That trying to consume less and differently is not just like another stone in the pond. That going for respectful environment-friendly and not-tested-on-animals products is not just another fancy of mine. That taking the time to make my own cleaning products is worth it (at least I know our sceptic tank thanks us for it), and so is my weird ideas of buying mainly seasonal, local, fair-trade and/or organic goods. That trying to avoid plastic products and having a garden is not just useless. That the money we put into having a greener and waste-free home is meaningful. That preferring to walk or use the bicycle, or accepting the annoyance of public transport to the car is worth (at least I’ll do my daily sport).
Thanks to all the hummingbirds. Have a nice Earth day.
P.S.: I naturally went for a vegan bento. It lacks of proteins but this morning I ate a lemon tofu soufflé as breakfast.
