Traditional shortbread and a smoothie

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Tea treat
Purple smoothie
Traditional shortbread

The sun is out with all the heat that comes with it, so we like to eat under the shade of a tree. And what could be better than to endear ourselves with a freshly prepared smoothie and some shortbread? And smoothie is a good trick to make Bear eat some fruits!

Back from the market: apple chestnut bread

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Snack
Apple and chestnut bread with cheese spread
-Spring sprouts
-Fresh veggies: raw cauliflower, raw carrots, apples
-A glass of lemonade

We like to wander in the market on Saturday mornings under the pale sun of spring. Usually when we come back home with our bags full, we like to take a moment to sit and enjoy to eat some fresh vegetables with fresh homemade bread. For a change I went for a chestnut and apple flavoured bread.

Sealed sandwiches

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento content
-Sealed sandwich with aubergine caviar, sprouts
Red fruits jelly
-Lamb’s lettuce
Steamed rice onigri stuffed with sprouts and spread cream
Polish sweet red cabbage salad

My friend StL did all the travel to our place to say hello. And she even came with a present : a sandwich sealer. So I think the least I could do to thank her was to publish Bear’s bento. Thank you so much! For those of you who don’t have it one solution can be to use the flat part of the blade of knife to seal it.

Chocolate and banana treats, rose hip jam

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Tea treat
Chocolate and banana treats
Rose hip jam on homemade brioche
-Freshly juiced orange
-Chicory beverage

Okay banana isn’t local, but from time to time I like to have some. Here I mixed it with some chocolate mousse to please my greedy sweet tooth of mine. As it wasn’t enough (I’m really greedy) I hopped to my cupboard and went to fetch a little treasure: our homemade rose hip jam. Did you ever do some? It starts with a walk on the hills to pick up the fruits, then it continues with two nights of cooking! But it’s worth it. Just taste it on a slice of brioche…

P.S.: Mum, here’s the chocolate mousse I was talking about the other day.

Rice sandwiches, home-grown vegetables

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento content
Rice sandwiches stuffed with mushroom pâté (homemade)
-Mum’s garden carrot and parsnip
Lentils salad
-Dried fig, almonds, cranberries, and crystallised ginger
-Two little Alsatian biscuit (from Alice)

It has been a while since I last posted. Sorry about that but I’m quite busy lately and it seems it’s not going to change much. A friend of us popped in for dinner a few days ago and brought me some of these traditional Alsatian biscuits, and as we didn’t eat the full box on that evening I still had a few to squeeze in my lunch box. The vegetables are mum’s home-grown one’s, I find them so tiny and so cute, and if you had the chance to taste them you’d find them incredibly tasty and flavoured. It just wonderfully matched with my mushroom rice sandwiches. And just a little tip to enhance your rice sandwiches : use glutinous rice!

Porridge for wintery days

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Breakfast
Apple and cinnamon flavoured porridge
-Hot beverage made from soya milk and chocolate

Winter, grey and cold days, icy wind and snowy mountains. What can one dream of on such days? The little ogre in me longs for a basic savoury and fulfilling porridge. Here it’s the apple and cinnamon version. But I can also go for any other variation with cranberries, sultanas, bananas, pear or even chocolate.

I don’t now how many photos I tried to take of my Mamie’s olive and tomato cake (my French Granny). So this is my last shot, it’s not good and doesn’t seems as yummy as it should. But I’m fed up of trying, I did everything I could possibly think of. So here you are with Bear’s favourite salty cake. With some little items to highlight it.
