Hand made presents, kiwi and mint jelly

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento
-Lens and rice
Potato purée
Kiwi and mint jelly
-Strawberries

My lonely evenings are quite full lately. Lots of Christmas projects, and clothes mending. A few buttons and a ribbon and the nightdress is ready for the midnight ball. Some drawings, birthday cards. And dolls awaking from surgery after a few stitches or a bath.
So only a quick bento could be done tonight. It is a little starchy but I should be eating a little more of proteins, the fruits are just a way to treat myself. I just have to keep in mind that tomorrow night I have to prepare a plate full of veggies to compensate!

I miss you, end of summer bowl in Chile

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Dinner
-Lettuce with parsley
-Sesame seeds
-Radishes
-Pickles
-Tomato with chive
-Toasted cereal bread with a spread of chunky peanut butter and mustard sprouts

Burning my lips with Mary’s herbal tea in the far end of Chile. Loneliness and sunshine rays through my curtains. A lot of work to do and some tiredness. A little cardigan to go out in the sun and brave the brisk wind to get to a pastry shop. Licking my finger with sugar crumbs to avoid staining my book.
A little salad for dinner prepared in a hotel room.
Bear I miss you.

Earth day and a quick bento

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento
Risotto topped with flax seeds and wakame
-Canned pepper bell, mum’s home-grown carrots, flat green beans, chive, parsley

Most of the time I feel like the hummingbird trying to fight an enormous forest fire with the tiny drop of water he can store in his beak, not listening to the others laughing about the nonsense of the situation, trying not to hear their “it’s useless” argumentation.
But today is different. Today is Earth day. Today, I feel that I’m not the only hummingbird in the world. That trying to consume less and differently is not just like another stone in the pond. That going for respectful environment-friendly and not-tested-on-animals products is not just another fancy of mine. That taking the time to make my own cleaning products is worth it (at least I know our sceptic tank thanks us for it), and so is my weird ideas of buying mainly seasonal, local, fair-trade and/or organic goods. That trying to avoid plastic products and having a garden is not just useless. That the money we put into having a greener and waste-free home is meaningful. That preferring to walk or use the bicycle, or accepting the annoyance of public transport to the car is worth (at least I’ll do my daily sport).
Thanks to all the hummingbirds. Have a nice Earth day.
P.S.: I naturally went for a vegan bento. It lacks of proteins but this morning I ate a lemon tofu soufflé as breakfast.

Vegan bento: veggies with ginger and sesame sauce

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento
-Boiled carrot, parsnip, rutabaga (yellow turnip) with sesame ginger miso paste
-Brussels sprouts
Vegan sausage rolls
-Semolina topped with parsley

We decided that it was time to get back to proper bentos, not just quick sandwiches tossed in a paper bag with maybe a fruit. I did this bento in the morning with the sausage rolls leftovers from the evening. In 20 minutes, the bento was packed and I was ready to go. I started boiling the Brussels sprouts with soja sauce, peeled and sliced some carrots, parsnip, rutabaga which went boiling in another pan. In the meantime, I had breakfast, got washed and prepared, came back to boil some water for the semolina, and tucked everything in the bento.
Bear shared his with Stevens, who both found it neatly presented and tasty. That’s the best compliment ever!

Polish soup : Parówkowy gulasz w jarzynami

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Dinner
Polish soup (tomato soup with peas and vegan sausage),
-Toasted bread,
Tofu balls,
Sauerkraut

Bear is away all week. I’m lying on my favourite fluffy carpet, hanging on the phone with my sister while waiting that my soup cools down. It’s a simple meal that I would qualify of comfort food as it brings back a lot of memories from our Polish stay. A meal that Bear often asks for : quick simple and really yummy. A good way to fight winter.

By the way, has anyone a good recipe for vegan sausages? I’d love to be able to replicate the I-bought-them-myself ones.

P.S.: Eve, the homemade tomato sauce and the peas come from my freezer.

Breakfast when Bear is far away working: fruit salad and granola

I’m craving for summer and its wonderful fruits. So I’ll go back in time and share with you a meal and some memories.

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Breakfast
Fruity salad (watermelon, melon, apple, pear, tomato, carrot, mirabelle) with orange sweet sauce
Homemade granola

Bear is away working. My little eyes are puffy and tired as I’m not really disciplined in going early to bed when he’s away. I therefore needed a little cheering up breakfast full of vitamins. A little fruity salad topped with homemade granola with a orange caramel sauce.
A real treat!

Spicy red beans pasties

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Dinner
Spicy puffs
-Carrots
-Red cabbage boiled

This dinner is mum certified. That means, mum tasted it, liked it, and asked for the recipe (meaning dad liked it too!)! Who would think of a better reward? I made 20 of them and stored them in the freezer for later use. I serve two of them as a side dish as they are quite spicy.
