Waffle when alone

Sunshine. The dresses are popping out. Streets are full with bare legs. Female or male (picture the males with shorts not skirts, mean no offence to Scotland though). I’m resting in the garden under the shade of a fig tree. I’m treating myself with a salad that Bear would hate: crunchy broccolis (he likes them all soggy) with pepper bells (I still can’t get him to eat that). As a dessert, I guess he wouldn’t say no to my waffles but I know he would sulk at the cherries. But, this is the perfect meal for me. Like an enormous Christmas present, I cherished each bite.
I’m used to making a full batch of waffles and freeze the leftovers. They are perfect when my bread monster has eaten up all the bread with none left for breakfast. I just reach for them in the freezer and toss them in the toaster. I even prefer them this way as they come out with a crispy coat.
But I have to check on Bear, though he usually isn’t so keen in dessert, he can eat them all up on a movie night with some sweet chestnut purée.

Banana Lassi and not so liquid food: creamy cherry and fried banana rice pudding


Maybe I should entitle that: the best breakfast ever since this liquid food week! Yeah, I was able to eat some sticky rice pudding flavoured with home-made cherry jam. It was such a joy, you could imagine!To end this week on a high note, I’m posting three recipes..We will first start with the cherry jam. This jam is not very sweet as I prefer to taste the real flavour of fruits. And to be sure that it’ll keep for at least one year I pasteurize it (see below).
Cherry jam recipe: jeez….I forgot that I packed my notebook with this recipe already. I did this jam more than three weeks ago on a shabby week-end, where only cooking could cheer me up…So, promised, when I’m unpacking I’ll update this recipe! That’s so dumb! Typically me… 🙂
So, well, the Lassi recipe…I did it this morning and the recipe is the usual one.
And at last the so tasty rice pudding! I’ve prepare some for tomorrow morning!
So, hopefully next week I’ll be able to have access to my kitchen and my tools, for one more month in Alsace. Jeez, I never thought that I could miss so much cooking!

Vegetarian lens and carrot burgers

I quickly put together some fruits to assemble into this tasty bento. I’m really happy about the taste of this meal, as I’m a bit fussy and stressed out, so I lack of appetite. The only way I manage to sustain myself is to try new spicy recipes.

A trip to Paris

Bento content:
-Smashed potato,
-Ginger flavoured broccoli and Italian flat beans, read beans
Chicken rolls
-Strawberries, cherry, mint leaves,
Rice pudding.

Hey yes, I’m in Paris again. And this time with no time to go to the Chinese shops.

“Chinois” or custard stuffed brioche

-Cherries, strawberries
-Orange juice
-A slice of home-made “Chinois”.

This bento cheered me up on the this rainy morning. Mhm, waking up knowing that such a treat is waiting for you…it’s just great, you just forget the grey sky and the fact that you’re going to be stuck inside. A typical French recipe for a great breakfast. This recipe is an adaptation of my version of soft brioche where custard is added. I’ll post a photo of the soft brioche on it’s own when I’ll do one. Mhm, I just love this “Chinois” or brioche, I’m just fond of it! Hehe, and I still have some for two or three more mornings! I keep it wrapped in a towel and then in a plastic bag so that it doesn’t dry out.

Girly skull or beetroot coloured rice

-Nori
-Broccoli, carrot, Italian flat beans
stuffed parsley and lemon rolled chicken
-Lemon, fig, apricot, cherries, strawberry.

I like skulls, and usually I associate them with either a smile or a girly colour. Somehow it seems that this idea became quite popular. Well, I won’t change that because it became common!
This bento was full of taste and colour. I was really happy to eat it! (I’m the lucky one who eat it!)
The vegetables were all cooked with two tablespoons of soja. As I cooked in the same time the lemon slices the taste was truly awesome.
The colour of the rice was a red pink (it doesn’t properly come out here) so I’ll have to put less beetroot for a more pastel colour. In fact, I don’t really like beetroot. To say the truth, I don’t like beetroot except as bortch (the Polish beetroot soup) or now as a food colouring. Finally I think I just don’t like to eat beetroot in salads. Huhu..next time I’ll show you the blueberry coloured rice for those who are hopping to have “the most near to blue” coloured rice.

Meat again…

Minced meat with egg

For the first time I find a veg and fruit market in Montpellier that offered very good quality fruits and veggies for low price. I had to walk for one hour or so, but it was really worth the fruits and veggies have such a good taste. So by the way, I continued and bought a little bit of meat a the butcher. This guy was really nice he gave me tiny pieces of meat without annoying me. Usually in supermarkets I can either only buy pre-packed meat (which is way too much for me) or have a lot of difficulties to have a tiny pieces at the butcher’s. Finally my shopping was even cheaper than usual and the quality is much better. Conclusion, I’ll have to book my next Saturday morning for shopping!
This week I was most of the time eating at restaurants in Lyon and somehow it seems that there meals are essentially composed of meat. Well, for a veg-eater like me it was really harsh. Still, I tried to prepare myself a bit of meat by hiding inside a boiled egg. The result is quite nice to look, and I even enjoyed eating it. I cut mine into two for two reasons: first I’m not a fan of meat so half is more than enough, and secondly it’s much more prettier to see the hidden egg, no?
If you manage to make a form with these egg moulds go ahead. I just didn’t manage yesterday evening, maybe too tired from the journey back from Lyon…
