Love letter, leftover lunchbox

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento
Asparagus
Hollandaise sauce
Mint peas
-Courgette and potato sauté
Lens and beans burger
-Rice
-Strawberries

Back to work as normal, a bento for lunch as being a vegetarian in France is not the easiest. Some courgette and potatoes sautés and some strawberries completed yesterday’s leftovers.
I should be more sedentary in the following months. Not sure Bear will though, so I’ll be the one staying in a lonely house filled with memories, laughs and teasing, scrabble games and chess defeats, decoration planning and wall banged down, plaster dust and paint smells, dug up garden and newly planted trees, all the things we only manage to do together and when one is not by our side we just lose the strength or ability to do.

Chile, a kitchen and a summer lunch

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Lunch

-Little summer salad (pealed tomato, cucumber and lemon)
-Melon (half)
Tomato, courgette, olive and tofu pie.

Chile, end of the stay, a little flat shared with a friend. An oven, some great flour (I’d love to bring back tones of this flour). An evening baking where we ended as wet phantoms as one started to throw a pinch of flour to the other, then the other grabbed the near by glass half full of water…a great baking night.
The pie leftovers were completed for lunch with a little cucumber tomato salad and a melon. What more can you ask for?
Maybe that Bear could share these moments with me…

Spicy Indian courgette dish, toffee pudding

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Dinner
Courgette and pea (Indian style dish)
Rustic tomato sauce
-Steamed rice balls coated with sesame seeds
Little toffee cream

Still sunny evenings. The table is outside, and we enjoy to the have dinner with our feet in the grass watching at the sunset. A little dinner for two with candles. Romantic isn’t it?
The meal is quite ordinary, a little courgette dish similar to the courgette Shak I had in a London’s restaurant, some homemade tomato sauce, steamed rice balls and some little toffee puddings for dessert. An nice evening under the summer sky. A little bit of rest before moving out.

Courgette treat as a good bento item

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento content
Coco and banana jelly
-Polish pickles (ogorki)
-Mini tomatoes
-Maize
-Rice with pumpkin pickle
Courgette treat

Monday isn’t my favourite day. Going back to work with a cold, being so tired and knowing that I’m late in my work, that I should have worked the week-end too, that I’ll need to hurry…I’m so happy I took time to prepare this little bento Sunday to warm my heart up with good homemade food. And this bento has a new item which is truly great eaten cold also: courgette slices seasoned with soya sauce, rice vinegar and to which I tossed in some homemade furitake. Tomorrow will be easier, it’s Tuesday.

The pie-maker

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Dinner
Tart with béchamel, peas, aubergine, courgette, tomato, mushrooms
-Lettuce.

I’m a lazy girl. A little sick too. So I spent some time watching Pushing daisies, and with all these pies in front of me I couldn’t resist! I believe you’ll see a few pies coming up in the next posts! I love them, as one can play with the ingredients the spices and that it will make two to three meals for us too. I will usually add a few side dishes to highlight the tart part. Pies is the solution for overbooked persons which still want to eat healthily.
Speaking about being in a hurry and cooking just give a look at Michael Pollan essay Out of the kitchen, onto the Couch. It’s a brilliant article analysing America’s cooking tendency: watching food shows better than cooking truly. I thank mimi54 for pointing this article out to me.

Wooden bento box, raw courgette spaghetti

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento content:
Vegetarian sushi with vinegar prune and carrot
Raw courgette spaghetti with sunflower sauce
-Carrot sticks
-Nectarine

I wanted to use my not air nor liquid tight wooden bento. Therefore I had to find things which would be dry enough and wouldn’t leek. So one raw recipe for the top layer with courgette spaghettis and a sunflower miso sauce to spice them up.
I tried to do some vinegar prune (I have no idea how the original Japanese should taste, I’m not staying here long enough to properly make these pickles) to stuff the sushis. A few nectarine slices completed the meal. Because of the fruit I had to wrap the bento with cling film.
