Hand made presents, kiwi and mint jelly

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento
-Lens and rice
Potato purée
Kiwi and mint jelly
-Strawberries

My lonely evenings are quite full lately. Lots of Christmas projects, and clothes mending. A few buttons and a ribbon and the nightdress is ready for the midnight ball. Some drawings, birthday cards. And dolls awaking from surgery after a few stitches or a bath.
So only a quick bento could be done tonight. It is a little starchy but I should be eating a little more of proteins, the fruits are just a way to treat myself. I just have to keep in mind that tomorrow night I have to prepare a plate full of veggies to compensate!

Love letter, leftover lunchbox

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento
Asparagus
Hollandaise sauce
Mint peas
-Courgette and potato sauté
Lens and beans burger
-Rice
-Strawberries

Back to work as normal, a bento for lunch as being a vegetarian in France is not the easiest. Some courgette and potatoes sautés and some strawberries completed yesterday’s leftovers.
I should be more sedentary in the following months. Not sure Bear will though, so I’ll be the one staying in a lonely house filled with memories, laughs and teasing, scrabble games and chess defeats, decoration planning and wall banged down, plaster dust and paint smells, dug up garden and newly planted trees, all the things we only manage to do together and when one is not by our side we just lose the strength or ability to do.

Together, mint peas, hollandaise sauce and asparagus

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Quick evening meal
Mint peas
Hollandaise sauce
-Rice
Lens and red beans burger
Asparagus

After my trip to Chile I did a jump to Sweden while Bear was in Finland. Both home at last we treated ourselves with some asparagus highlighted with an hollandaise sauce. I added a lens and red bean burger as I really missed pulses in Chilean restaurants. Some rice with mint peas was the perfect match.
It’s such a pleasure to be together again.

Rice and peas krokiet

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Dinner
Rice, lens and peas krokiet
-Lettuce
-Steamed broccoli

I loved to eat in this healthy vegetarian fast-food in Warsaw. I miss such a brand here. So this evening I wanted to eat again one of their ‘krokiet” made of rice, peas and lens. I found on the net a recipe and did my own version (as usual). It is vegetarian and was breaded with okara rather than breadcrumbs. I do not know yet how to do some vegan “cheese” to replace it. You’ll have to wait that I get the “Ultimate Uncheese cookbook” book for the vegan version. Anyway, Bear was realy happy with the meal.

Spicy Indian courgette dish, toffee pudding

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Dinner
Courgette and pea (Indian style dish)
Rustic tomato sauce
-Steamed rice balls coated with sesame seeds
Little toffee cream

Still sunny evenings. The table is outside, and we enjoy to the have dinner with our feet in the grass watching at the sunset. A little dinner for two with candles. Romantic isn’t it?
The meal is quite ordinary, a little courgette dish similar to the courgette Shak I had in a London’s restaurant, some homemade tomato sauce, steamed rice balls and some little toffee puddings for dessert. An nice evening under the summer sky. A little bit of rest before moving out.

Simple food: steamed rice onigris

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento content
Steamed onigri
Pumpkin purée, lentils, nori, and again lentils, pumpkin
-Sprouts
-Steamed red beans

If you’re familiar with my diet, you know how much I enjoy rice. I first tasted steamed rice in a welcoming Laotian restaurant in a little town in North-East of France. The chef explained us in detail the recipe. I can’t thank him enough for my everyday pleasure of enjoying steamed rice at home with low efforts. This time, I just accompanied it with some simple items. One side of the box I just set one layer of pumpkin purée, lentils, nori, then start all over. It’s really nice to take a spoonful of this mix. Red beans completed the meal.

Rice sandwiches, home-grown vegetables

Vegetarian, Bento, Cuisine, Recipes, Zoé

Bento content
Rice sandwiches stuffed with mushroom pâté (homemade)
-Mum’s garden carrot and parsnip
Lentils salad
-Dried fig, almonds, cranberries, and crystallised ginger
-Two little Alsatian biscuit (from Alice)

It has been a while since I last posted. Sorry about that but I’m quite busy lately and it seems it’s not going to change much. A friend of us popped in for dinner a few days ago and brought me some of these traditional Alsatian biscuits, and as we didn’t eat the full box on that evening I still had a few to squeeze in my lunch box. The vegetables are mum’s home-grown one’s, I find them so tiny and so cute, and if you had the chance to taste them you’d find them incredibly tasty and flavoured. It just wonderfully matched with my mushroom rice sandwiches. And just a little tip to enhance your rice sandwiches : use glutinous rice!
